Journeys in the country: The highways are paved
with asphalt
and are usually in a good state.
|
|
By bus:
Turkey does not have any great
railway
system thus making the
bus network well networked. There is a bus
station :'Otogar"
in every big city.Cities
are very far between each other. The fares
for example from Antalya to Istanbul are approx. 20
Euro one way. If you are up for a 650 km
ride including stops with
an approx.. travel time of 10 hours
then it is recommended that you travel with the buses of the companies
of of Varan, Ulusoy or Kamil Koc. The buses are
fairly new, have two
drivers, a steward and has a speed of not more than 80 km/hr.
This translates into safety for you
for only 10 - 20 % more than what you
would pay with other buses with
irresponsible driving records on the highways, poor service and only
one driver.
By airplane: The liberalization of the inner-Turkish air
traffic makes it possible
to fly now quite cheaply in Turkey. From 49
YTL (approx. 30 euro) ,one way,
private airlines offer domestic
flights throughout Turkey.
By rental car:
(see: Rent a car)
By motorcycle:
If you travel by motorcycle,
please take special care as motorists have
their own laws on the streets of Turkey.I ,myself am
an enthusiastic
motorcyclist, not, however, on Turkish streets! |
Kale: see: Demre
Kaleici :
This is the old town of Antalya
which you simply must visit. The old port of
Antalya can also be reached easily from
here. Go to the bars, the lovely tea gardens or
collect a few typical souvenirs from the Old
Bazaar. Experience the homely
atmosphere, especially at evening time. You
can listen to the call to prayer of the Yivli Minarett
(built
in 1219). A necessity for every holiday-maker!
Kalkan: Small fishing village
near Kas which has blossomed into an idyllic
tourist place with
many small guesthouses and hotels. A place for
individuals who want quiet times. The beaches
and bays have crystal-clear water.Unsuitable for
children.
Kas: Kas is hidden behind a
fjord-like bay. For many
yeras it was a secret spot but it is a
tourist center
with many international visitors. It boasts an enchanting port and picturesque lanes.
At the evening one can see the lights from the Greek island „Kastelorizon. A special experience is the
Kas sunset with the
scenery of the ancient theater of Antiphellos. Kas
is a diver's paradise.
Suitable for holiday-makers without
kids and divers.
Kekova: The island Kekova lies on
the headland Kale, previously known
as Simena. The ancient Simena
was rebuilt into Kale as new houses were built
on the remains of a
medieval castle. A seaquake caused a lowering of the seabed.,
so giving rise to the sunken city as the whole dock and parts of the
former Byzantine city went under water. A
feeling of reverence overcomes every visitor as they
tour the sunken city of Kekova by boat.
Kemer: The former
orange and fishing
village of Kemer
has developed over the last
years into a
stronghold for tourism.Businesses
are set up rapidly in leather, gold, textiles, and
carpets.
Restaurants, bars and Cafes are also rapidly growing
in number. The Turkish holiday regions are increasingly mirroring the
tourist destinations of Mallorca's
'Arenal"
or the Gran Canaries south.
The expansive hotel chains
and clubs, with their many beds,
can be found at the beaches of Kemer. Kemer itself
has a a very
beautiful port with a beautiful moonlight
bay and beach.
A trek to the nomad village,
found on the
mountain behind the port, is
recommended..
Kemer and environs are very well-kept and offer wonderful beaches
and sights. The beaches of Kemer consist of sand/grit. Well suitable for
all holiday-makers, with or without children.
