Spices: There is hardly a spice that you cannot find readily here. A spice trader comes into the big hotel chains and clubs and sets up  his market  for the tourists. You can, however, purchase your spices more cheaply at one of the numerous weekly markets or at spice shops.

Sun: We  all know that  the sun is very dangerou and we ahve not been able to replenish the ozone layer. In the Turkish Mediterranean, howver, the sun is much stronger than at your home. Bear that in mind and slowly let your skin get used to the strong ultraviolet rays.

Taxi: Taxi fares are relatively cheap and the number of cars  is more than ample. You pay approx. 70 cent per kilometer. For longer routes you can arrive at a 'special price" with some haggling. Always negotiate the fare before any long routes! After 00..00 o'clock a.m. it is usual to negotiate fares. By law, the taxi drivers must turn on the taximeter. Please insist on that! The meters always have a strong yellow color in the taxi.

Theft:In Antalya, you do not have to fear theft, handbag robbery or assaults, as in other tourism places of the world. The relgion here already dictates that theft is a very bad crime, but it is possible to be robbed here.In  hotels, valuable objects should be placed in the hotel vault. You should always follow  the usual precautions  not trust people blindly. The police, Jandarma or the tourism police help with greater thefts.

Tekirova: Small tourist place near Kemer. Well suitable for holiday-makers with or without children. The beaches consist of grit/sand and the water is crystal-clear and completely clean.

Termessos: The ruins of Termessos are found at  approx. 1.000 meters high on the mountains of Antalya. Even Alexander the Large, in 334 B.C. could not overcome the walls of Termessos to take the city. The story is  that Alexander the Large, to revenge this, deforested entire olive groves around  Termessos. In the 3th Century A.C. the inhabitants left the settlement because of an earthquake. Only in the year 1840 Termessos was rediscovered. As it is hidden away, the visitor finds Termessos today as an overgrown  jungle. The well extended road network of the city is to be seen. The well preserved remains of a theater in the classical Greek style and the walls of an Odeons are very impressive.. The seats of the theater were beaten directly out of  that one rock. History has it that an  earthquake in the 3th Century A.C. destroyed graves of the 'Deadcity" and devastated it, after which it was plundered by robbers. One can observe many of the threatened animal and plant species in the nature park  of Termossos. Bears and panthers can supposedly be found here as well.

Time Zone: GMT +2. The clocks for summer and winter time are moved synchronously as in Europe.

Toilets: Another country, another custom. The origin loo is the famous puncture in the earth! Women follow the sign "Bayan"  to the toilets and men follow "Bay" . Although generally you find European toilets, it can be that  you may  bump into these famous "original loos" outside of your hotel. Also, not every restaurant has its' own toilet! But, near every mosque there is a public toilet and to use it you pay a small fee upon leaving.

Tourism police:  Should you be defrauded or come into other difficult situations  you can go directly to the tourism police who overseers these matters exclusive to  holiday-makers. They are reached in  Antalya at this telephone number: 2431061

Vaccination: No preventative  vaccinations are mandatory. You should, however, ensure that you follow the basic principles of the hygiene, by washing your hands frequently and be careful with  fresh fruits.By doing this you will avoid stomach and intestinal  illnesses.

Yanartas: Burning stones of Cirali (Olympos). If you on vacation in Kemer you should not leave without seeing it.
