Pharmacies: There are a
great number of pharmacies with a great assortment of drugs.
You can recognize a pharmacy by the turkish
word „ECZANE"mostly written in red writing on
a white background.
The
pharmacist has has the reputation of being a 'little doc"
although he is not one. Antibiotics can be dispensed
without prescription here, even for mild coughing
or bronchitis. Be careful if they suggest you take
antibiotics. |
Phone calls:
It is as simple as in Europe. First
the international access country codes, eg.
to
Great Britan 0044, to
call Austria 0043, Switzerland 0041, directly after
the code of the
town (without the zero) and then
the actual number of the person you are calling, (for example
Munich 089 - you choose 0049 - 89 + the number of the participant).
Sometimes in the high season the telephone
network is overloaded at eveningtime and you
must make several attempts to call.it is nearly twice to four times
as expensive to make a call from a hotel than it is to call by telephone
card. You should therefore
get a calling card near a post office and find the
blue card
telephone
booth in your hotel. It is usually hidden or located before the main
entrance. Ask for it if it is not visible.
Post office:
Open daily
from 8.00 o'clock to approx.19.00 o'clock
and in the high season to late evening.
It is recognized by a table with the
letters PTT on
a yellow background.
Radio stations: On short
wave 9545 kHz in the 31 meters volume and 6075 kHz in the 49 meters volume,
you can get German programmes.
The
Turkish German- and English speaking holiday-sender
broadcast airs daily from 7.30 o'clock until 12.45
o'clock, as well as 18.30 o'clock until 22.30 o'clock on following
frequencies: Antalya UKW 100,6 - Izmir VHF 100,5 - Nevsehir UKW 103,0
Bodrum UKW 97,4 - Kusadasi UKW 101,9 - Pamukkale UKW 101,0 Kalkan UKW
105,9 - Cesme UKW 99,1 - Istambul 101,0 - Marmaris UKW 101,1
Rafting: Several
types of 'wildwater-rafting"
are offered by the
travel agencies.
For good sportsmen we recommend the tour on the
Alara river (at Incekum). The other
river rides
in Beskonak (spoken: Beschkonak), or on the Dimcay
Fluss (at Alanya)
do not require much as much effort or skill,
as the Alara Fluss at springtime with the melting of
snow on the mountains. The rides in Beskonak,
in summer, is a more pleasant river
ride
in rubber boats and is
suitable for all age-groups. Almost all travel agencies
offer this tour as a
day excursion and includes lunches
from
approx. 35 to 50 Euro per person.
Real Estate/Properties:
You will be
surprised
that you can acquire a second
home quite easily here. The proximity to the EU has
made property ownership here even more
interesting in Turkey.Foreigners, both old and young, have
found that it is delightful to have residences here on account of the
pleasant and mild climate, and in winter. There
are golf courses, tennis facilities,
ranches
and fabulous
ski runs found in in the close
mountains.
The improved quality of life has
become indispensable for many people.Home shsould be chosen based on if the
infrastructure is right and if there is a medical facility
close by.You should avoid places that are given to fog, cold,
frost and snow. If you are interested in the properties
in
Side, Alanya, Belek or Antalya, it is important to
go only to 'hands on' expert
knowledge is absolutely necessary, if you
are
interested you can send me a mail

Religion:
Turkey follows the Islamic religion. Muslims
comprise 99 % of the population. There
is,however, absolute religious freedom and
Christian churches are also here.
By the way: The holy Santa Claus comes from Demre.
Maybe he was a Turk? Who knows?
Restaurants:
There are many restaurants
including the 'Lokanta" or „Kebab Salonu",offering
starters, köfte or kebabs.
They are designed simply and are quite cosy. You focus
more on the food on your plate
than the interior
of the restaurant.
The
food menu is so diverse that
I can not mentin everthing. You can even
find a multilingual menu in the bigger
restaurants.
Everyone wants to eat authentic turkish cuisine and if you are without a
menucard, try to talk
with your hands and feets.
