The
times of the business in the tourist centers are so unlimited that they
are open every day til late in the evening. The big shops in Antalya,
however, closed at 19.00 o'clock and on Sunday's.
Grocer's shops are open
for longer hours and also Sundays. Banks and local authorities work
Monday to Friday from 8.30 o'clock until 12.00 o'clock and from 13.30
o'clock until 17.00 o'clock.
You can reach the post-offices from 8.00
o'clock until 19.00 o'clock every day. General Post Office offices are
opened for 24 hours. |
Olympos:
The
ruins of Olympos are most mainly covered from reed and scrub. Very
interesting is approx. 5 meters high portal before which the ruin of a
statue stands, with an inscription for the emperor Marc Aurel (172 to 175
A.C.). In the further environment one finds still many Lycian graves. The
eternal burning fire since many centuries is very known for Olympos
(called: Yarnartas). Homer settled once the fire-breathing monster
„Chimaira" in Lycia. Maybe it is a question in Olympos even of the
mystical home of this figure from the Greek mythology. In the village
Cirali (at Olympos) you find a guide to the burning stones. An work of
approx. 20 minutes rewards you with a fabulous experience. The best time
for that is in the dusk. For the visit in the case of darkness a
flashlight is absolutely necessary! The way is not fortified.
Pamukkale:
Verbally translated „cotton-castle" calls it. Once the place of the
ancient city Hierapolis (2th Centruy B.C.) Also the wonder of nature
„Pamukkale", with that -up to 100 meters high large snow-white „bathtubs"
of calc-sinter. Here one can arise in 35 degrees hot spring water. Already
Greeks and Romans let to presumably be it in the warm cymbals. The water
is strongly lime and coal-acidic. The lime builds before all in the colder
winter months the calc-sinter, one speaks of calc-sinter terraces. Since
1994 the limestone terraces shine slowly again in new white, nevertheless
a hotel that filled it's pool with the spring water was built before
around the main source around. The terraces had suffered through the
missing influx of the origin source very much and discolored themselves
for a dirty grey. To a big pressure of conservationists final, the
government has the field Pamukkale in Ankara -incl. the surrounding
ancient places- as the Pamukkale Nature Conservation Park declares. The
there founded hotels are supposed to be torn down again. Next to
Cappadocia belongs Pamukkale to one of the presumably most interesting
landscapes of Turkey and are unique miracle works on the world.
Patara:
The commanders Hannibal, emperors Hadrian and apostle Paulus belonged
presumably to the best known visitors Pataras. Former port of Xanthos.
Patara is approx. 11 kilometers of Xanthos away near the village Kelemis
(speak: Kelemisch). Patara experienced his largest time among the Romans
who fitted out a supply port for their armies. Today one can recognize
still the remains of a gigantic granary and triumphal arch. In the course
of the time Patara became under sand, the port became marshy, the theater
was blown half from the sand. The special at Patara the fine sandy beach
miles long is, as at the north sea of dunes is lined. Where does one have
that otherwise still?
Perge:
Once united with the sea through the river Kestros. The first settlement
arose for approx. 1.000 B.C. on the Acropolis hill. Today one sees still
the remains of a byzantine church here. In the 7th Century B.C. fell Perge
in Lydics, later into Persian hand. 133 B.C. Perge fell on the Romans. In
morning-Christian time the apostles Paulus and Barnabas preached here.
Directly at the street you see the remains of the theater, that approx.
100 B.C. was built. In 40 rows of seats it offered 14.000 visitors place.
Also the remains of the main street with columns built by the Romans are
very impressive. Wide in the north hits one onto the ruins of an ancient
sport place in which then up to 27.000 spectators found place.
Gasoline:
Turkey has a very well built up net of gasolin stations. They all opened
24 hours. The quality of the standard measure gasoline sort is not so very
much good, therefore you refuel better always Super ones. The price per
liter super is enclosed approx. 1,70 Euro. Fuell costs approx. 1,20 Euro
(April 2007). If you refuel, you stand many service stations also
simultaneously wash the car freely as services make. They give the car
washers only a small „bashisch" = tip.
